Hoosier Ticket Project to help families experience Indiana University athletic events

BLOOMINGTON, IN – The Mop Lady (@themoplady) Twitter account is proud to introduce the Hoosier Ticket Project, a nonprofit organization with the aim of removing financial barriers that prevent fans from attending Indiana University athletic events by leveraging the generosity of alumni and fans.
BLOOMINGTON, IN – Indiana native Josh Bruick has partnered with The Mop Lady (@themoplady) parody Twitter account to create the Hoosier Ticket Project, a nonprofit organization with the aim of removing financial barriers that prevent fans from attending Indiana University athletic events by leveraging the generosity of alumni and fans.
“As an IU fan, you always remember your first time walking into Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall and Memorial Stadium,” said Josh Bruick, chief executive officer. “Our goal as an organization is to provide as many opportunities as possible to those who have not yet experienced—or had the means to experience—Hoosier gameday, ultimately creating future generations of Hoosier fans.”
By visiting HoosierTicketProject.org, individuals may donate or request tickets. Requests will be evaluated by members of the project and, if qualified, matched with available tickets.
Joining Bruick as board members are chief operating officer Jason Gerdom (Indiana '97) and director of engagement Amanda Pavelka. The trio plans to increase the number of ticket donations and utilize financial gifts to provide tickets to individuals and families in an effort to increase attendance at IU athletics events and give Hoosier student-athletes the best possible home-crowd environment.
“Some of the biggest IU fans have yet to experience a game in person. It is time to change that,” said Pavelka. “Martha’s work to match unused tickets through Twitter proved that Hoosier Nation is full of generous donors. We want to take that to the next level.”
The idea was sparked in March 2019 when The Mop Lady Twitter account made an offer to fund a parent-child duo to attend the Indiana men’s basketball first-round National Invitational Tournament game vs. St. Francis (Peay) in Bloomington. Since then, more than 150 donors have sent more than 300 families and friends to more than 50 men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and football games courtesy of The Mop Lady.
“This is our way of giving back to a university that has given so much to us,” said Gerdom. “My passion for Indiana University started with men’s basketball but grew exponentially once I set foot on campus. IU unlocked a world of possibilities for me. With the Hoosier Ticket Project, I’m hoping the opportunity to attend a game and visit Bloomington inspires kids to dream big and see themselves achieving great things at IU.”
